The new entry in the FRIDAY THE 13TH franchise is slowly revolving over a spit in production hell. The May 13, 2016 date was looming closer and closer without any news, so it hardly comes as a surprise to hear that the official release has been bumped yet again. Luckily, there's not too much of an additional wait, as the new date is Friday, January 13, 2017. That is, unless they push it again. I wouldn't put it past them.
Directed by V/H/S's David Bruckner, the new FRIDAY THE 13TH will face off against several other big films that weekend: the Stephen King adaptation THE DARK TOWER, the POWER RANGERS reboot, Gerard Butler's GEOSTORM, and Ted Melfi's HIDDEN FIGURES. It'll cream any Gerard Butler flick, but it's got some big competition in DARK TOWER, which has countless legions of fans.
Waiting for the new FRIDAY THE 13TH feels like a nightmare where you're running down an endlessly extending hallway, but at least you have several outlets for F13 fandom in the meantime. If you're missing Jason Voorhees from your TV screen, a series is currently being developed at the CW. If you miss Jason in your face, be sure to catch the upcoming 4D experience. If you prefer your Jason more cerebral and obscure, there's the book on the Friday the 13th TV series from the late 80's. And if you just plain want to have a good time, the official Friday the 13th video game is on its way!
