Update: Paramount sets Mel Gibson and John Lithgow to star in Daddy’s Home 2

Update: It seems that Paramount Pictures were successful in courting Mel Gibson and John Lithgow to star in DADDY'S HOME 2, as Deadline reports that a deal with the pair has been reached. As you would imagine, they will be playing the fathers of Mark Wahlberg and Will Ferrell's characters. The comedy sequel will find Dusty (Wahlberg) and Brad (Ferrell) now working together to give their kids a perfect Christmas, but when Dusty’s Dad (Gibson) and Brad’s Dad (Lithgow) arrive, their blended family conflicts rise to the surface.

Although Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg's DADDY'S HOME didn't exactly endure itself with critics, it still managed to rake in quite a lot of dough at the box-office, and I think we all know what that means. Time for a sequel! Paramount Pictures quickly signed both Ferrell and Wahlberg up for a follow-up early last year, and now it seems as though they're looking to add Mel Gibson and John Lithgow to the sequel's cast as well.

Deadline reports that the studio is currently courting both John Lithgow and Mel Gibson to star in the DADDY'S HOME sequel, and, although the report doesn't specify, I would imagine that they'll be playing the respective father's to Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg's characters. Nothing has been set in stone just yet, but Deadline says that the offers are out and that it looks "promising." Although Gibson (and Lithgow obviously) certainly has comedic chops, it seems an odd move to make coming so soon after the success of HACKSAW RIDGE, which recently scored six Oscar nominations including nods for Best Picture, Best Actor and Best Director.

HACKSAW RIDGE will be released on Blu-ray/DVD on February 21, 2017.
