J.J. Abrams recently announced the return of George Kirk (played by Chris Hemsworth in STAR TREK) in the next Trek film, and now it looks like Paramount Pictures wants to make this thing official! Even before BEYOND has hit theaters, Paramount has released an official statement confirming that work is underway on a 4th TREK film, and that Chris Hemsworth will return as James Kirk's father in the next installment!
Paramount Pictures on STAR TREK 4:
In the next installment of the epic space adventure, Chris Pine’s Captain Kirk will cross paths with a man he never had a chance to meet, but whose legacy has haunted him since the day he was born: his father.
Paramount stated that the remaining cast is expect to return (sans Anton Yelchin, sadly), and that J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay will be writing the screenplay. No word yet on a director, but J.J. Abrams and Lindsey Weber will be producing through Bad Robot Productions. This is great news for fans of the rebooted Trek franchise, as this shows some serious confidence in BEYOND, as well as great initiative to get the next adventure going. At the very least, this new cast will see as many films as the Next Generation crew did. The films thus far have been met with some mixed results, but if our review of the latest is any indication (check it out HERE), BEYOND may prove to be the most well-rounded adventure yet!
STAR TREK BEYOND hits theaters this Friday!
