Peter Safran, the producer of the successful fright film THE CONJURING, and Patelion Films are coming aboard to shepherd a new contagion horror project with Filmax titled SUMMER CAMP, according to Variety.
Pantelion Films, a joint venture of Lionsgate and Mexican media corp Televisa, will now distribute English-language horror film SUMMER CAMP in North America. Pantelion will also co-produce the film, which stars Diego Boneta (ROCK OF AGES) and is directed by Alberto Marini, scribe of SLEEP TIGHT and exec producer of cult zombie franchise REC. REC's co-director, Jaume Balaguero, will also serve as an executive producer.
Skedded to go into production in Barcelona next February, SUMMER CAMP centers on…
…three American camp counselors who show up for their summer jobs at an English-language camp in Spain and come face-to-face with a virus unlike anything seen before.
Hmm. Shades of CABIN FEVER, anyone?
Still, I'm behind the idea as it certainly has the potential to be a gross-out good time.
Filmax will distribute in Spain and handle international sales, kicking off at AFM. Pantelion is also negotiating with Filmax to take rights to Latin America.
