A new Paint poster finds Owen Wilson’s Carl Nargle smiling while surrounded by happy little trees

I don’t know if anything is more soothing than Owen Wilson smiling while sporting a mighty blonde afro. With light twinkling in his eyes, Wilson stares into the distance, surrounded by happy little trees for IFC Films‘ new Paint poster. It’s moments like this when I’m thankful Wilson is experiencing a resurgence in cinema. Between starring in Marvel’s Loki and Disney’s Haunted Mansion and becoming powered up for the underrated Secret Headquarters family film, Wilson is in a good place.

Paint stars Owen Wilson as Vermont’s #1 public television painter, Carl Nargle, for Brit McAdams’ latest project, and Bob Ross fans are salivating.

In Paint, Wilson’s Nargle is convinced he has it all: a signature perm, custom van, and fans hanging on his every stroke. Yup! Nargle is on top of the world until a younger, better artist steals everything (and everyone) Carl loves.

McAdams directs from the 2010 Black List screenplay he wrote, with Michaela Watkins (Werewolves Within, Sword of Trust, CBS’ The Unicorn), Wendi McLendon-Covey (Bridesmaids, ABC’s The Goldbergs), Ciara Renée (Hawkgirl from CW’s Arrowverse), Lusia Stuss (Search Party, 50 First Dates), Stephen Root (Office Space, O Brother, Where Art Thou?) and newcomer Lucy Freyer set to star.

Wilson’s Nargle strikes a classic pose in the new Paint poster akin to portraits you’d take at Sears department stores in the ’80s. Looking whistful and optimistic, Nargle revels in the natural splendor of the scene he’s painted. The Paint poster sends dopamine to my tired Monday brain, and I am so thankful. I’d also be grateful for another cup of coffee.
