The Paddington films are some of the most acclaimed family films with high audience ratings and nearly 100% on Rotten Tomatoes with 97% for the first film and an astounding 99% for Paddington 2. Paddington 2 was even given a humorous shout out in the Nicolas Cage comedy, The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, with a rousing recommendation by Pedro Pascal’s character. The third film, Paddington in Peru has secured a release date for November 8, 2024 in the UK and will fly on over to the United States on Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend, January 17, 2025.
The synopsis for Paddington in Peru, according to Deadline, reads,
“In the Dougal Wilson directed picture, Paddington heads to Peru to visit his beloved Aunt Lucy, who now resides at the Home for Retired Bears. With the Brown Family in tow, a thrilling adventure ensues when a mystery plunges them into an unexpected journey through the Amazon rainforest and to the mountain peaks of Peru.”
The film is a StudioCanal and Heyday Films production, but Sony has picked up the charming bear for distribution in the US and Canada. The official Sony Pictures social media account sent out a tweet featuring the above teaser trailer and a caption announcing, “Adventure awaits! #PaddingtonInPeru is coming exclusively to theaters in 2025.”
Paddington in Peru stars an ensemble that includes Hugh Bonneville, Emily Mortimer, Antonio Banderas, Olivia Colman, Julie Walters, Madeleine Harris, Samuel Joslin, Jim Broadbent and Carla Tous with both Ben Whishaw and Imelda Staunton returning as the respective voices of Paddington and Aunt Lucy.
Paul King, director of the first two entries was busy working on the Timotheé Chalamet Willy Wonka prequel, Wonka, so Dougal Wilson steps into the director’s chair for this third film. Although, King is still on board as an executive producer and “Story by” credit. The screenplay for this installment was penned by Mark Burton, Jon Foster and James Lamont. In addition to Paul King, the story was also conceived by Simon Farnaby and Mark Burton. Paddington in Peru is based on the children’s stories by British author Michael Bond. The movie is produced by David Heyman and Rosie Alison. Executive producers include the likes of Paul King, Anna Marsh, Ron Halpern, Dan MacRae, Tim Wellspring, Jeffrey Clifford and Naoya Kinoshita.
