Paddington 2 loses 100% Rotten Tomatoes rating

Gather your pitchforks and light your torches, because we're gonna burn this mother down! If you're someone who places a lot of stock on what Rotten Tomatoes has to say, then you might be a little dismayed to learn that Paddington 2 has recently lost the honour of the top movie according to Rotten Tomatoes.

Thanks to a review from Film Authority's Eddie Harrison, Paddington 2's Rotten Tomatoes score has been knocked from an impressive 100% to a pathetic 99%. Harrison's review claims that Paddington 2 doesn't have the same spirit as the children's books on which it's based, calling the situations Paddington finds himself in "contrived and ridiculous." He also sets his sights on Paddington himself, calling the movie incarnation of the beloved bear "over-confident, snide and sullen," even adding that voice-actor Ben Whishaw sounds like  "a member of some indie-pop band coming down from an agonizing ketamine high." Goodness. Paddington 2 isn't the only prestigious film to recently lose its 100% Rotten Tomatoes score, as an unearthed 80-year-old review also knocked Citizen Kane down a peg last month.

While we're talking Paddington, StudioCanal revealed earlier this year that a third film is in the works, saying "We can confirm Studiocanal is working very hard on film 3 with the utmost craft and care — as with film 1 and 2." While there are no details on what sort of marmalade-filled misadventure Paddington will be getting into this time, it's likely that director Paul King will not be returning. King told Empire last year that although the two Paddington movies had been "one of the great treats of my life, at some point you just have to stop. It might be a time for somebody else to do a twist on it. I'm trying not to do a third bear movie, which is a huge, huge mistake." That said, he will still be involved with the franchise as an executive producer.
