PACIFIC RIM 2 is actually happening! The sequel to Guillermo del Toro's 2013 kaiju flick has commenced production in Australia today, heralded by the announcement of its official title, presented through star John Boyega's Instagram. The FORCE AWAKENS actor shared an image of his script (which looks lovely, by the way), announcing that the film will officially be called PACIFIC RIM: MAELSTROM, the title that has been rolling around for some time now.

Boyega will be playing the son of Idris Elba's character in the original. His co-stars include Scott Eastwood, Jing TIan, Cailee Spaeny, Levi Meaden, Adria Arjona, and Ivanna Sakhno.
PACIFIC RIM: MAELSTROM will be helmed by Daredevil season 1 showrunner Steven S. DeKnight, replacing original director del Toro, who remains on board as a producer. The script was penned by JURASSIC WORLD screenwriter Derek Connolly.
The film is scheduled to rampage into theaters on February 23, 2018.
