Good grief. As someone who suffers from breathing problems for reasons I don't have time to get into here, Netflix's latest trailer for Oxygen isn't doing me any favors right now. If you're the type of science fiction film fan who likes your futures populated by temperamental technology, you'll probably love today's preview for Alexandre Aja's latest horror film.
What is Oxygen, you ask? Oxygen is a French survival thriller directed by Alexandre Aja. The film tells the story of a young woman (Mélanie Laurent), who wakes up in a cryogenic pod. She doesn’t remember who she is or how she ended up there. As she’s running out of oxygen, she must rebuild her memory to find a way out of her nightmare. Oh, and did I mention that at one point in the film a bunch of lab mice make their way into the cryo-chamber? What is Laurent's character has musophobia? Who needs that kind of distraction while fighting for their lives inside a hermetically sealed coffin from Sharper Image?
Oxygen is written by Christie LeBlanc (How to Make a Reality Star) and is produced by Vincent Maraval, Brahim Chioua, and Noëmie Devide for Getaway Films. Alexandre Aja also acts as a producer alongside Gregory Levasseur. The film also stars Mathieu Amalric (The French Dispatch), and Malik Zidi (Play).
Despite my reservations, I will likely end up checking this out when debuts globally on Netflix on May 12, 2021. I'll tell you what though if I start to hyperventilate alongside Laurent's character, Elizabeth Hansen, I'm out. Best of luck to you all with this one.
