Last year, Paramount Pictures and J.J. Abrams' production company Bad Robot pulled off a sneaky move and revealed that an original film that we had known by the title THE CELLAR was actually the second installment in an anthology series that began with 2008's CLOVERFIELD. THE CELLAR became 10 CLOVERFIELD LANE.
I guess we now need to start assuming that every Paramount/Bad Robot genre project is another CLOVERFIELD movie. A sci-fi thriller called GOD PARTICLE, which is scheduled to come out on October 27th, turned out to be the third CLOVERFIELD project, and now we might know what the fourth CLOVERFIELD is as well.
Last month, it was announced that Julius Avery would be directing OVERLORD, a World War II horror project that writers J.J. Abrams and Billy Ray got set up at Paramount ten years ago. Now that the project has been revived (and the script has received a "slight polish" by Mark L. Smith), rumors are starting to fly around that OVERLORD will be getting the CLOVERFIELD title stamped on it.
The CLOVERFIELD connection has not yet been confirmed, but what is certain is that OVERLORD will star Jovan Adepo (pictured above) and Wyatt Russell (below).
Set to begin filming in the UK in May, OVERLORD has the following synopsis:
On the eve of D-Day, American paratroopers are dropped behind enemy lines to carry out a mission crucial to the invasion’s success. But as they approach their target, they begin to realize there is more going on in this Nazi-occupied village than a simple military operation. They find themselves fighting against supernatural forces, part of a Nazi experiment.
It doesn't matter much to me if a movie is called CLOVERFIELD, all that matters is whether or not these projects turn out to be good, entertaining sci-fi thrillers and horror movies.
