Coming our way from Random House on October 3rd is the book Out There Screaming: An Anthology of New Black Horror, which was edited by and features an introduction written by Jordan Peele, the writer/director of the horror films Get Out, Us, and Nope. The list of authors who have contributed to this book includes Erin E. Adams, Violet Allen, Lesley Nneka Arimah, Maurice Broaddus, Chesya Burke, P. Djèlí Clark, Ezra Claytan Daniels, Tananarive Due, Nalo Hopkinson, N. K. Jemisin, Justin C. Key, L. D. Lewis, Nnedi Okorafor, Tochi Onyebuchi, Rebecca Roanhorse, Nicole D. Sconiers, Rion Amilcar Scott, Terence Taylor, and Cadwell Turnbull.
Out There Screaming: An Anthology of New Black Horror has the following description: A cop begins seeing huge, blinking eyes where the headlights of cars should be that tell him who to pull over. Two freedom riders take a bus ride that leaves them stranded on a lonely road in Alabama where several unsettling somethings await them. A young girl dives into the depths of the Earth in search of the demon that killed her parents. These are just a few of the worlds in OUT THERE SCREAMING, and—like Peele’s spine-chilling films—the anthology’s stories prey on everything we think we know about our world and redefine what it means to be afraid.
According to Fangoria, the book will explore “not only the terrors of the supernatural but the chilling reality of injustice that haunts our nation.“
Hardcover, audiobook, and Kindle editions of Out There Screaming: An Anthology of New Black Horror are already available for pre-order on Amazon at THIS LINK.
This sounds like a cool project to me. Having Jordan Peele’s name on it will draw in a lot of horror fans who may not be familiar with the authors who contributed to the book, so it will be introducing those writers to a larger audience. I’m an example of this, because honestly, the only one of the authors I’m familiar with is Tananarive Due – and I became aware of her because she was on a podcast about Stephen King’s The Stand with Mike Flanagan, and she was part of the brainstorming sessions for the upcoming Friday the 13th TV series Crystal Lake. So it’s nice to see Peele promoting the work of so many other writers.
