These days, part of the fun of watching a movie in theaters or at home with the ability to freeze frames, is finding the Easter eggs hidden within. For the history buffs out there, the origin of the cinematic Easter egg dates back to THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW. Supposedly one day on the set, the cast decided to have a traditional Easter egg hunt, as you do, but some of the eggs were never found and actually appeared in frames of the movie! So if you're obsessed with finding hidden messages, jokes, and ways to make you look smart in front of your friends, check out these Easter eggs!

Understandably some of these have been around for a while, but some may be new to other readers; there’s no expiration date on sharing so enjoy and have fun!

BACK TO THE FUTURE – Quiet you

It's not the first egg I've shared from BACK TO THE FUTURE and it likely won't be the last; the movie is full of great little gems like this one. This egg takes place during the scene where Marty enters 1955 and crashes into the barn, the owner of the farmhouse is Peabody (as mentioned by Doc earlier and we see his name written on the mailbox). Peabody's son Sherman, who reads science fiction magazines, mistakes the DeLorean time machine for a spaceship from outer space, idiot.

If you’re old enough to remember, Sherman and Peabody were also two time-travelling characters from The Rocky and Bullwinkle Show. They didn't need roads either.

 THE FRIGHTENERS – The deadliest weapon in the world

One of Peter Jackson's lesser-known movies, and one of his best, is THE FRIGHTENERS. A not-so-subtle egg takes place when Michael J. Fox enters the cemetery and has an exchange with the rather angry played by R. Ermey, famous for playing Gunnery Sergeant Hartman in FULL METEL JACKET. Ermey defends his territory using a very similar style of insults heard in FULL METAL JACKET. Some have suggested that maybe his character is supposed to be the ghost of Sergeant Hartman, I’ll take it.

THE GOONIES – The boy who cried mogwai

Keeping up with the Amblin Entertainment list we have going here, let's look at another subtle Easter egg and reference to another cult favorite. In THE GOONIES during the scene where Chunk calls the police after the run-in with the Fratelli’s, the cop who answers seems to know Chunk very well. He lists all the previous stories Chunk has told the police including the one about "the creatures that multiply when you add water to them", a reference to GREMLINS of course! The connections stack up when you realize that Chris Columbus wrote the story of Gremlins and the screenplay for THE GOONIES. Corey Feldman also had a role in GREMLINS and stars in THE GOONIES.

SCREAM – Say hello to Michael for us

It wouldn’t be a ‘90s horror movie without a slight nod or reference to another classic franchise. In the opening scene of SCREAM when Casey (Drew Barrymore) ultimately meets her demise (know your horror trivia folks!) her parents come home and quickly realize something is wrong. Let’s watch:

Did you hear her dad tell her mum to "drive down to the Mackenzies"? This is a reference to HALLOWEEN, when towards the end of the movie Laurie (Jamie Lee Curtis) tells the kids (Tommy and Lindsay) to run down the street to the Mackenzie's house presumably for safety. Bad babysitter.
