Last Updated on July 23, 2021

OBLIVION, or whatever Joseph Kosiniski’s epic sci-fi endeavor will be called upon release, has just gotten stronger with the casting of Melissa Leo (seen right), Best Supporting Actress of two years ago for THE FIGHTER. Anyone want to quibble with that assertion?

Deadline broke the news, though specifics on her part weren’t provided. We do know Leo is set to join Tom Cruise, Morgan Freeman, Olga Kurylenko (below), Andrea Riseborough and Lindsay Clift in the visual extravaganza.

Speaking of:

The untitled thriller centers on a battle-damaged soldier who, assigned to a desolate planet after a court-martial, patrols the bleak landscape in an effort to destroy the last vestiges of a primitive alien race. When a mysterious traveler arrives unexpectedly, their lives become inextricably linked as they are forced to question everything they know about this world and themselves.

Cruise will play the soldier who’s stuck alone on the planet, repairing the drones that patrol and destroy a savage alien life form. He encounters a beautiful woman who crashes in a craft, and their experience together forces him to question his world view.

OBLIVION’s release recently got moved from July to April 26, 2013.
