Oscar winner Gary Oldman to star in Apple TV+ show Slow Horses

Before you ask no it's not a show about equines who've ingested too much tryptophan.

While Gary Oldman (THE DARK KNIGHT, DARKEST HOUR) has certainly compiled quite the movie resume since he began his career with director Colin Gregg's 1982 film REMEMBRANCE, his television appearances have been few and far between. In fact you have to go all the way back to 2002 to find the last time Oldman was on television, where he played himself on the short-lived Greg the Bunny. However, it looks as if Gary Oldman's long absence from the small screen is about to change.

The BATMAN BEGINS actor is set to star in the Apple TV Plus show Slow Horses. The show itself is based off of author Mick Herron's Slough House series. Slow Horses will follow, "a team of British intelligence agents who serve in a dumping ground department of MI5 – Slough House. Oldman will star as Jackson Lamb, the brilliant but irascible leader of the spies who end up in Slough House due to their career ending mistakes." Hmmm. Based on the description it sounds equal parts spy thriller and possible (?) comedy.

Veep writer Will Smith (no not that one) is set to pen the series and will also executive produce. No word yet on any other cast members or a production start date as the project is still in early stages.

Apple TV+ is certainly hitting the ground running with programs like For All Mankind, The Morning Show, See, and the upcoming Servant. This latest just proves that the new streamer isn't afraid of branching out into a variety of genres.

In the meantime you can catch Gary Oldman in THE LAUNDROMAT currently streaming on Netflix. He also has THE COURIER set to open later this month and director Joe Wright's THE WOMAN IN THE WINDOW next year.
