According to THR, STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER actor Oscar Isaac has signed on to star and produce an adaptation of Brian K. Vaughan's Eisner Award-winning comic, "Ex Machina." As you know, Isaac has already starred in a movie which goes by that title, so Legendary Entertainment has elected to change the name of this film adaptation to THE GREAT MACHINE.

The comic-series by Brian K. Vaughan and Tony Harris followed Mitchell Hundred, a former superhero who becomes the mayor of New York City after 9/11. Hundred had the power to talk to mechanical devices but the comic was concerned less about super-heroics than issues of government and political leadership. Oscar Isaac will play Mitchell Hundred. Anna Waterhouse and Joe Shrapnel, who penned SEBERG, are set to pen the screenplay for THE GREAT MACHINE.

A synopsis of "Ex Machina" via Amazon:

When a strange accident gives civil engineer Mitchell Hundred the amazing ability to control machinery, he uses his newfound powers to become the world's first living, breathing superhero. But the thrill of risking his life simply to help maintain the status quo eventually wears thin, leading Mitch to retire from masked crime-fighting in order to run for Mayor of New York City–an election he wins by a landslide.

And that's when the real weirdness begins.

Before it's over, the lives of Mayor Hundred and everyone around him will be turned upside down and inside out–and the very fate of humanity will turn on his actions. Will the man who stopped the second plane on 9/11 be able to resist the incalculably greater threat now looming on the horizon? Or will he prove to be the ultimate example of the corrupting nature of power?

Oscar Isaac can currently be seen on the big-screen in STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER as Poe Dameron, but the actor has plenty of projects just over the horizon, including Denis Villeneuve's star-studded adaptation of DUNE on December 18, 2020 as well as Paul Schrader's THE CARD COUNTER, which will also star Tye Sheridan, Tiffany Haddish, and Willem Dafoe.
