Like many of you I have also been wondering how the arch mutant villain Apocalypse will appear on screen in the upcoming in X-MEN: APOCALYPSE. The very idea of putting this character in a movie would seem impossible to a lot of people, especially if it was done even just a few years ago. Thanks to advances in technology, Oscar Isaac will be playing the part and his transformation sounds intriguing to say the least. For those worried it could be a fully CG performance, you can sleep tonight.
Talking with Yahoo! Isaac explains:
It’ll be a mix [of practical and digital],I haven’t had a script so I haven’t had a chance to look through the script and see what the exact requirements are, but I think it’ll be a mixture of physical, aided with some robotic technology.
It sounds like Bryan Singer is going for the most terrifying portrayal of this character possible. Using a blend of physical and digital, the larger-than-life character should go hand-in-hand with the talent that will inevitably be showcased by Isaac.
I’m heading to do a head cast [for ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’], which they do often. You spend 3-4 hours with them putting plaster all over your head and they get a sense of what your face is like and what shape your head is, so they can start figuring out the costume and the make-up and all that stuff, which is pretty fun.
The grey skin, glowing eyes, body armor and blue mouth are the traits avid fans will be looking for. Like most comic to screen transformations, I suspect they might take some liberties but it does sound like they’re going about it the right way. Isaac has described the role as "scary, scary s–t," let’s hope the look of Apocalypse fits the bill.
X-MEN: APOCALYPSE will start rolling in Montreal beginning April, 2015 for a May 27, 2016 release.
