It’s been six years since screenwriter William Monahan’s Oscar win for THE DEPARTED, and despite the consistent work he’s had in the interim Monahan is only just getting started.
He adapted SIN CITY: A DAME TO KILL FOR. He wrote Todd Phillips to direct THE GAMBLER?” href=”../movie-news/hangover-director-todd-phillips-in-talks-to-take-over-for-scorsese-on-the-remake-of-the-gambler” target=”_blank”>the remake of 1974’s THE GAMBLER for director Todd Phillips (produced by Martin Scorsese). He re-wrote OBLIVION for Tom Cruise. He’s William Monahan writing SFLV remake” href=”../movie-news/william-monaghan-will-direct-charlize-theron-in-the-remake-of-sympathy-for-lady-vengeance” target=”_blank”>going to write the remake of Chan-wook Park’s SYMPATHY FOR LADY VENGEANCE for Charlize Theron. And now he’s on track to direct his second film, titled MOJAVE, that “is an intense two-hander about a man who escapes into the desert only to encounter a doppelganger-like antagonist and subsequently enter a vortex of criminality and violence.” Monahan of course wrote the script and will produce besides, a task no doubt made all the more sweet by the fact that actors Oscar Isaac (DRIVE, ROBIN HOOD, THE BOURNE LEGACY) and Jason Clarke (LAWLESS, ZERO DARK THIRTY, THE GREAT GATSBY) have signed on to star.
There’s no word yet on which man will play which character, but either way this is one project I’m definitely keeping an eye on. In fact, I think it’s safe to say that out of everything Monahan has coming up, MOJAVE is probably what has me most excited. Production is set to start in early 2013.
What about you? Which of the projects I listed here most sparks your interest?
