While their mammoth Lord of the Rings series is in development, Amazon will be taking a leap into the realm of fantasy with Carnival Row, an eight-part series which is set in a Victorian fantasy world filled with mythological immigrant creatures. Orlando Bloom (THE LORD OF THE RINGS) and Cara Delevingne (SUICIDE SQUAD) star in the upcoming series and Amazon has released a brief teaser to let us know that Carnival Row is on the way.
Orlando Bloom plays Rycroft Philostrate (good lord), a human detective, while Cara Delevingne plays Vignette Stonemoss, a refugee faerie. Together, the pair "rekindle a dangerous affair despite an increasingly intolerant society and Vignette harbors a secret that endangers Philo’s world during his most important case yet: a string of gruesome murders threatening the uneasy peace of the Row." In addition to Bloom and Delevingne, Carnival Row also stars David Gyasi (INTERSTELLAR) as Agreus, a mysteriously wealthy faun who moves into an affluent human neighborhood in defiance of the social order, Karla Crome (Under the Dome) as Tourmaline, a quick-witted faerie poet driven from her war-torn homeland, Indira Varma (Game of Thrones) as Piety Breakspear, the regal and cunning matriarch of the powerful family that rules the city of The Burgue, and Tamzin Merchant (Salem) as Imogen Spurnrose, a young woman who sees in Agreus an opportunity to turn her aristocratic family’s fading fortunes around. Although the teaser doesn't give us much of anything, I'm intrigued enough to check the series out. What do you folks think?
