Christophe Gans says a new Silent Hill film is in development

While Silent Hill fans are eagerly anticipating another installment of the fan-favorite horror video game franchise – possibly to arrive via next-generation platforms – Christophe Gans, who directed the original SILENT HILL movie, says that he is working on a new entry in the film series based on the spine-tingling franchise.

While speaking with Allocine, Gans said "We’re working on a new Silent Hill. The project will always be anchored in this atmosphere of a small American town, ravaged by Puritanism. I think it’s time to make a new one."

"Time to make a new one" indeed! Personally, my body is more than ready for another Silent Hill, be it in film or video game form. If you're unfamiliar with the premise, Gans' SILENT HILL centered around a woman named Rose who, after finding herself lost in the fog-choked town of Silent Hill, must search for her adopted daughter before they both succumb to the horrors that haunt a mysterious locale with a dark history. SILENT HILL went on to earn $100.6 million at the worldwide box office, and was eventually given a sequel with 2012's SILENT HILL: REVELATION, starring Adelaide Clemens, Carrie Ann-Moss, and GAME OF THRONES alums Kit Harrington and Sean Bean. In the sequel, Sharon Da Silva (Erin Pitt) is drawn into a strange and terrifying alternate reality to search for her adoptive father. During her quest she unlocks the mysteries behind horrific nightmares that have plagued her since childhood.

No other details related to Gans' Silent Hill project are available at this time.

In addition to his plans for another Silent Hill movie, Gans also confirmed that he's working with producer Victor Hadida on a film adaptation of the video game series Fatale Frame.

"I have two horror film projects with (producer) Victor Hadida," Gans told Allocine. "I am working on the adaptation of the video game Project Zero. The film will take place in Japan. I especially don't want to uproot the game from its Japanese haunted house setting."

Concieved by Makoto Shibata and Keisuke Kikuchi, Fatale Frame is a horror video game series inspired by Shibata's own spiritual experiences. For the game series, players investigate haunted houses while using an old fashioned camera as their only weapon with which to trap the ghosts that they encounter. If you're looking to play a game in the Fatale Frame series, my suggestion is to get yourself a copy of Fatale Frame II; Crimson Butterfly, as it's by far the best of the bunch.

Both endeavors are currently in pre-prodution.

While we wait for the veil over Gans' Silent Hill project to be uncovered, why not tell us if you're game for another movie based on the Konami video game series ? My thoughts are that I would want another installment of the video game franchise before settling into another film, but perhaps the feature is attached to a games project that's yet to be officially announced? I'm just saying, what if Playstation reveals another game in the Silent Hill series as a Playstation 5 exclusive? I'm of the mind that a game like that would sell more than a few consoles. Let's make it happen, Sony!
