Two new images have been released for Guillermo Del Toro‘s PACIFIC RIM and both are about the giant creatures that are decimating humanity in the film called Kaiju. SFX has this picture that looks like it’s from an Asian news broadcast that appears in the film:
Since most of the action for PACIFIC RIM is going to be Cthullas vs. robots I think it’s important to remind us how big these creations really are or else we kind of “forget” that these things are the size of skyscrapers. I think when too much screen time is devoted to special effect shots that showcase a giant moving creation it can sometimes take away from how we perceive its “real” size because the images start to feel too fake. PACIFIC RIM has done a decent job with it so far (love the shot of the robot falling to one knee in the trailer) and images like these that keep the big bastards’ size relatable without actually showing the creatures helps as well.
Next there’s this picture that was tweeted from Warner Brothers that gives us a first look at Kaiju blood:
Doesn’t the saying go, “If it bleeds, we can kill it?” I’m hoping that since the Kaiju blood looks like warm black tar that we can get some brutal action that slips by the PG-13 rating.
PACIFIC RIM should be an absolute blast. Some movies you see to have your brain raped. Some movies you want to tickle your funny bone. And sometimes you just want to see a movie with massive beings slapping the shit out of each other.
PACIFIC RIM is out July 12, 2013.
Synopsis:
When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju, On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes-a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi)-who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last home against the mounting apocalypse.
