J.J. Abrams has been very tight-lipped about any plot elements related to STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS outside of the officially released images, teasers, and presentations. Still, the man who grew up a fan of George Lucas' saga is not above sharing some fun and ridiculous answers about the seventh entry in the series set in a galaxy far, far away.
During an interview with MTV, Abrams dodged questions about the running time of STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS, whether some iconic lines will be uttered in the film, and even about whether R2-D2 is an asshole on set. But, one question asked got a definitive answer that should please haters of the prequels.
When asked whether midichlorians will be mentioned by any characters in STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS, Abrams uttered a single word answer.
"No."
J.J. Abrams and Kathleen Kennedy have previously said that STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS would treat all six films as canon but would be maintaining the aesthetic of the original trilogy. Midichlorians are one of the most hated additions to canon that George Lucas added via the prequel films and I don't think there was any doubt it would not be mentioned again, but there should be solace in the confirmation that it is absolutely not coming back in the new film.
