Olivia Cooke & LaKeith Stanfield in talks to lead fairy tale film for Disney

All hail our Disney overlords and their plans to pack Disney+ with more exclusive content than you ever could have ever imagined.

Back in May, the House of Mouse revealed their upcoming slate of films set for 2019 all the way up until the year 2027. Among the many projects listed was screenwriter Cat Vasko's UNTITLED FAIRY TALE PROJECT, which we now have word is being developed as a live-action film with Olivia Cooke (READY PLAYER ONE, BATES MOTEL) and LaKeith Stanfield (GET OUT, SORRY TO BOTHER YOU) in talks to star. Poised to helm the film is TO ALL THE BOYS I'VE LOVED BEFORE director Susan Johnson, whose coming-of-age teen drama arrived to rave reviews on Netflix in August. Such a hit was the Lana Condor (DEADLY CLASS) and Noah Centineo-starrer (MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE) that Netflix announced a sequel to the rom-com based on author Jenny Han's novel series.

Plot details related to the film are unknown at this time, though we've been made aware that Mad Chance executives Andrew Lazar and Ben Simpson are set to produce.

After arriving as a standout performer for her role as Emma Decody on the BATES MOTEL television series, Cooke put her quarters up to play the part of Art3mis/Samantha for Steven Spielberg's screen adaptation of author Ernest Cline's READY PLAYER ONE. Since that time, Cookes has starred as Becky Sharp for the VANITY FAIR TV mini-series, and is currently filming NAKED SINGULARITY alongside co-stars John BoyegaBill Skarsgard and Ed Skrein.

As for Stanfield, the GET OUT actor has been polishing his Hollywood star since 2013 when he appeared alongside CAPTAIN MARVEL's Brie Larson, Stephanie Beatriz (BROOKLYN NINE-NINE), John Gallagher Jr. and Rami Maleck for director Destin Daniel Cretton's SHORT TERM 12. Since that time, Stanfield has starred in such films as STRAIGHT OUTTA COMPTON, SNOWDEN, and DEATH NOTE, in addition to other notable features. He also stars as Darius on FX's ATLANTA, the smash-hit series from creator Donald Glover.

With so many fairy tales already belonging to Disney's robust library of classic stories, one has to wonder if Johnson's film will present Mouseketeers with some familiar folklore or a new and magical tale for the ages. We'll have to wait to find out, though as an unabashed Disney fan, I personally can't wait until more details are revealed.
