This Wednesday would make it a year ago exactly from the day we heard the asinine Spielberg/Smith remake of OLDBOY was all but dead. WTF, the globe circles once and the shite resurrects?!?
Word from Pajiba’s Twitter feed has it that Mandate Pictures is keen on Mark Protosevich’s OLDBOY script, which is still drawing interest to A-list directors. Matthew Vaughn and Danny Boyle, specifically. Peep the entry:
Protosevich’s “Old Boy” script nearly in — studio high on it. Mandate to re-engage Spielberg, Vaughan; failing that, D. Boyle.
Okay, we know Spielberg recently committed to ROBOPOCALYPSE as his next feature, and we’ve chronicled Danny Boyle’s hectic schedule through 2012. Vaughn however, currently filming X-MEN: FIRST CLASS, only has KICK ASS 2: BALLS TO THE ALL announced. My guess is he’s the likeliest to helm if Spielberg doesn’t want to himself (he may simply produce).
But what says you? Regardless of scheduling, who of the three would you prefer see direct? Is there someone else entirely or are you still dead-set against Chan-wook Park’s OLDBOY being remade in the first place?
