Given how selective he is in regards to roles, any project which Daniel Day-Lewis chooses to participate in is usually something special, but when you also throw Paul Thomas Anderson into the equation, well, then that's something very special indeed. Last year it would revealed that Daniel Day-Lewis would be reunited with the THERE WILL BE BLOOD director for a film set in the world of high fashion, and now, finally, the official title has been revealed.
Daniel Day-Lewis and Paul Thomas Anderson's upcoming film will be called, drum roll, PHANTOM THREAD. If that sounds familiar to you, then you're not alone, as that title has been making the rounds for many months. Here's the official synopsis for PHANTOM THREAD via Focus Features, which doesn't exactly tell us a hell of a lot.
Continuing their creative collaboration following 2007’s There Will Be Blood, which earned Mr. Day-Lewis the Best Actor Academy Award, Mr. Anderson will once again explore a distinctive milieu of the 20th century. The new movie is a drama set in the couture world of 1950s London. The story illuminates the life behind the curtain of an uncompromising dressmaker commissioned by royalty and high society.
I'm sure many of us were already looking forward to seeing what Paul Thomas Anderson and Daniel Day-Lewis have cooked up, but the upcoming film may be slightly bittersweet as Day-Lewis announced earlier this summer that he would be retiring from acting. This won't be the first time Daniel Day-Lewis has left the world of acting behind, but who knows when, or if, he'll return this time.
PHANTOM THREAD will hit theaters on December 25, 2017.
