Could this be the synopsis for Tom Cruise’s The Mummy reboot?

Universal's reboot of their classic monsters is happening whether we like it or not, and although it'd be foolish to hope for something with a similar feel to those old Universal Monster films, I'm holding out hope that this new shared universe will at least be fun. The studio is certainly hoping that giving these new films some serious star power will go a long way to getting the public pumped, and the first film in this new universe (unless we count DRACULA UNTOLD) will kick off with one of the biggest movie stars in the world, Tom Cruise. THE MUMMY is still in production and although we haven't seen an official synopsis yet, a possible one has emerged which gives us an idea of what we've in for.

Tom Cruise headlines a spectacular, all-new cinematic version of the legend that has fascinated cultures all over the world since the dawn of civilization: The Mummy.

Thought safely entombed in a crypt deep beneath the unforgiving desert, an ancient queen (Sofia Boutella of Kingsman: The Secret Service and Star Trek Beyond) whose destiny was unjustly taken from her is awakened in our current day, bringing with her malevolence grown over millennia and terrors that defy human comprehension.

From the sweeping sands of the Middle East through hidden labyrinths under modern-day London, The Mummy brings a surprising intensity and balance of wonder and thrills in an imaginative new take that ushers in a new world of gods and monsters.

Say what you will about the man, but Tom Cruise can always be counted upon to bring his A-game, I only hope that the Alex Kurtzman directed film won't be relying entirely on its stars charisma. It's also possible that Tom Cruise won't be the only big star in THE MUMMY, as it was recently reported that Russell Crowe was in early talks to play Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde in the film. Crowe's appearance would likely be the cameo, but obviously the hope is that the role would then led to a stand-alone Jekyll & Hyde movie.

THE MUMMY is set for a June 9, 2017 release.
