Last month a synopsis for THE FANTASTIC FOUR surfaced over at Rotten Tomatoes, and although it sounded legit, it's not like it was announced by FOX. Well, IGN has contacted the studio, and they confirmed the following is the official synopsis for the Josh Trank directed reboot.
THE FANTASTIC FOUR, a contemporary re-imagining of Marvel's original and longest-running superhero team, centers on four young outsiders who teleport to an alternate and dangerous universe, which alters their physical form in shocking ways. Their lives irrevocably upended, the team must learn to harness their daunting new abilities and work together to save Earth from a former friend turned enemy.
While that last line is probably about Toby Kebbell's Doctor Doom Victor Domashev/Doom, there's a chance the friend turned enemy could also be Tim Blake Nelson's Harvey Elder (Mole Man), who in the comics worked with Sue and Johnny Storm's father Dr. Franklin Storm.
But why didn't FOX make an announcement about the synopsis, and why hasn't the studio revealed almost anything from the project? From the leaked Doom and The Thing images to this synopsis, it seems a lot of the THE FANTASTIC FOUR stuff hasn't come directly from the studio. That's usually the case with other movies as well, however I just think it's a little weird they haven't even released any official images yet from the film. There's already a STAR WARS: EPISODE VII – THE FORCE AWAKENS teaser (which doesn't come out until December of next year), but still no THE FANTASTIC FOUR pics? As Jerry Seinfeld would say, "What's the deal with FOX and THE FANTASTIC FOUR?"
THE FANTASTIC FOUR will be in theaters on August 7, 2015.
