Be warned, SPOILERS for SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY below. It almost feels as though SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY only just hit theaters, but here we are well into September just a little over two weeks out from its release on home-media. Although SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY certainly has its fans, the film's box-office take wasn't that impressive as it walked away with only $392.9 million, which is especially shocking considering that Disney's other STAR WARS films have all grossed over $1 billion. The studio has got to be hoping that they'll get a little more cash when the film is released on home-media, and to that end, Lucasfilm has released several new photos of a character who showed up in a surprising cameo towards the end of the film.
Near the end of the film, Qi'ra (Emilia Clarke) contacts her superior to inform him of recent events, and who should that superior be but Darth Maul (Ray Park), appearing for the first time in a live-action STAR WARS film since THE PHANTOM MENACE. We only saw Maul as a hologram in SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY, but Lucasfilm's new photos show off the former Sith lord in the flesh.
Ray Park told Forbes that he found out that he would be returning to the role last summer. "I got the phone call from Lynne Hale from Lucasfilm. And it was really nice of her, because she said to me 'Ray, we're just calling to see if you would like to do it,'" Park said. "And I went [inhales slowly] 'Yeah. Do you want me on the plane now?'" As for the future, Park isn't sure what it holds, but he'd be more than willing to step into the robotic legs of Darth Maul once again and play around with Maul's new lightsaber. "If anything ever happens in the future and the character is back, and it's me? I have a lot of great ideas of what I'd like to do with it," Park teased.
SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY will be released on DVD/Blu-ray/4K Ultra HD on September 24th.
