There’s been some speculation lately as far as when Ridley Scott might tackle his sequel to BLADE RUNNER. Back in March, Twentieth Century Fox put forth the release date of March 4, 2016 for an untitled Ridley Scott project. Could it be PROMETHEUS 2 given what Michael Fassbender has recently stated, or is he finally ready to shoot BLADE RUNNER 2? Scott seems more than enthusiastic about returning to the world of replicants, so at this point it looks to be a matter of when, not if. The other big piece of the puzzle is Harrison Ford. Would he reprise his role as Deckard? If he does, what does that mean for his character and what was hinted at in the original?
It looks like we’re one step closer to answering that question, as the offer is officially out from Alcon Entertainment to Harrison Ford to have him return for the sequel. The ball’s in Ford’s court now, and I’d say that as long as there’s a good script in his hands, things are looking up. After all, this is the man who initially shunned the idea of acting in another Star Wars sequel, yet here we are. More importantly, it looks like Ford is having a lot of fun in the roles he’s been in lately. Everything from COWBOYS & ALIENS to ANCHORMAN 2 and even ENDER’S GAME. While the end product varies, I’m happy to see him on a regular basis.
Regardless of his answer, we’re bound to hear soon whether or not BLADE RUNNER 2 is indeed the film planned for that March 4, 2016 slot. In the meantime, we have another Ridley Scott-directed epic on our hands in the form of EXODUS: GODS AND KINGS, which stars Christian Bale and Joel Edgerton as Moses and Rhamses, respectively. Ridley Scott‘s account of Moses leading the Israelite slaves out of Egypt will hit theaters December 12, 2014.
