Despite being panned by critics, OUIJA was a decent-sized hit at the box office last year, earning over $100 million worldwide against a budget of just $5 million, so of course there's going to be a sequel. THR is reporting that Mike Flanagan (OCULUS) has been tapped to helm the follow-up.
Flanagan is also penning the OUIJA 2 script with his OCULUS co-writer Jeff Howard, and it will star Annalise Basso (also of OCULUS fame) as "a young girl grieving the death of her father." There's no other details on the plot for OUIJA 2, but it "will again revolve around the ancient spirit board that was at the center of the first film." And like the first movie, the sequel will be produced by Universal, Platinum Dunes, Blumhouse and Hasbro.
I don't have high hopes at all for OUIJA 2, even with a promising director like Flanagan set to helm the sequel. Maybe it will end up being better than the first one, but somehow I doubt that.
OUIJA 2 is scheduled to be released on October 21, 2016.
