Greta Gerwig’s movie version of Barbie has been getting a lot of hype, in part simply due to the fact that it’s a Barbie movie, as that’s something a lot of us never thought would actually get made. People are curious as to what the nature of the film is, with such interesting talent behind the project, including none other than Ryan Gosling and Margot Robbie as Ken and Barbie. Additionally, memes have already been created from the paparazzi pics of a filming of a scene on location on Venice beach. And now, it looks like Warner Bros, the studio behind Barbie, is keen to capitalize on the hype. Comicbook.com has reported (and this is all still unconfirmed) that the two are set to work together again for a new entry in the Ocean’s Eleven franchise.
This new planned entry will be a prequel to the 2001 all-star George Clooney remake. Details on the plot are not yet known, but earlier, it was announced that Robbie was already attached to this project, with Austin Powers director Jay Roach at the helm. With the casting of Gosling for the prequel, it’s natural to assume he may be taking on the titular role of Danny Ocean, although again this is all just hypothetical.
Comicbook.com is reporting that the movie is part of a new film strategy initiated by Warner Bros Discovery CEO David Zaslav. It will be planned as a new theatrical tentpole and will be given a bigger budget than previous entries (which were modestly priced), although it also likely won’t be a budget-bursting Fast & Furious style spectacle.
The prequel will be coming off the heels of the 2018 sequel/spin-off Ocean’s 8, starring Sandra Bullock as Danny Ocean’s cousin. Other than the family connection, Ocean’s 8 had no other direct relation to the previous movie in the Ocean’s franchise and received a lukewarm reception. The original film was a 1960’s Rat Pack movie about the Ocean’s gang pulling off a series of robberies in Las Vegas casinos, the Sahara, the Riviera, the Desert Inn, the Sands, and the Flamingo casino.
