Occupant & Deep Silver team to bring Dead Island movie to life

After a multitude of attempts from various companies, it seems Occupant Entertainment has punched its ticket to DEAD ISLAND!

Deadline is reporting that, yes, a DEAD ISLAND videogame-to-movie-adaptation is once again on the brink, this time with Occupant taking charge of the project. The company will do so in cahoots with Deep Silver publishing – as the two parties have agreed to package, produce and finance the zombie feature film adaptation.

You’ll recall, based on the massive internet buzz surrounding the brilliant videogame trailer for DEAD ISLAND, Lionsgate bought the film rights to the property back in 2011. As things fizzled amid new ownership, the project fell into limbo, with various attempts to get it off the ground falling through. Now however, Occupant has taken hold, aggressively looking to piggyback of its inaugural horror launch, ALL THE BOYS LOVE MANDY LANE. Word is Occupant is fast-tracking the project for an early 2015 start, which means they’re currently after a director to realize the material.

Speaking of:

Dead Island is a non-linear first-person shooter in which you find yourself on an island plunged into chaos. It’s a place where the word “dead” has an entirely new meaning. Face the nightmare and fight for survival.

Use anything you find in your surroundings as a weapon. Make decisions that influence the entire world around you, take advantage of opponent behavior and game physics, and explore the secrets hidden in the darkest regions of the island.”

And if that doesn’t sell you, peep the trailer for DEAD ISLAND 2 below!
