Obi-Wan Kenobi series will really satisfy Star Wars fans, says Ewan McGregor

It was recently announced that the Obi-Wan Kenobi would debut exclusively on Disney+ on May 25th, which still leaves plenty of time to get ridiculously hyped about the series.

The Obi-Wan Kenobi series will obviously find Ewan McGregor reprising his role as the Jedi Master, and the actor recently spoke with Forbes to say that he believes the series will really satisfy Star Wars fans.

I’m not going to give away anything else about the storyline, only I think it’s really going to satisfy Star Wars fans. I always felt there was a story between Episode III where I finished playing Obi-Wan in the movies and Episode IV where Alec Guinness is Obi-Wan Kenobi. The [Obi-Wan Kenobi series] writers and Deb and I and everyone, I think we crafted or they crafted a very fine storyline. I think people are going to like it.

In addition to Ewan McGregor, the series will also see the return of Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader. McGregor said that getting to reunite with his old friend was great. “I think it’s no secret that Hayden Christensen comes back and we got to play scenes together again as Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker,” McGregor said, “and it was just fantastic to work with him again.” The series begins 10 years after the dramatic events of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith where Obi-Wan Kenobi faced his greatest defeat—the downfall and corruption of his best friend and Jedi apprentice, Anakin Skywalker, who turned to the dark side as evil Sith Lord Darth Vader.

In addition to Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen, the Obi-Wan Kenobi series will also star Kumail Nanjiani (Eternals), Moses Ingram (The Queen’s Gambit), Joel Edgerton (Boy Erased), Sung Kang (F9), Bonnie Piesse (The Vow), Kumail Nanjiani (Eternals), Indira Varma (Game of Thrones), Rupert Friend (Homeland), O’Shea Jackson Jr. (Straight Outta Compton), Simone Kessell (Reckoning), and Benny Safdie (Uncut Gems). Prior to the Obi-Wan Kenobi poster seen above, the only real glimpse we’ve had of the series so far has been a sizzle reel released on Disney+ last year. Among the goodies teased in that video was a possible rematch between Obi-Wan Kenobi and Darth Vader, which would certainly be something to see.

Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi will debut on Disney+ on May 25, 2022.
