Disney+ has already found great success with The Mandalorian and now they're hoping to earn more goodwill with Star Wars fans as their Obi-Wan Kenobi series has announced its full cast as production is set to begin soon.
Disney+ confirms that production will begin in April on the Ewan McGregor-led series. The story is set 10 years after the events of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith and will also see the return of Hayden Christensen as Darth Vader. Joining McGregor and Christensen is a truly interesting ensemble cast that includes Joel Edgerton, Moses Ingram, Bonnie Piesse, Kumail Nanjani, Indira Varma, Rupert Friend, O'Shea Jackson Jr., Sung Kang, Simone Kessell, and Benny Safdie.
The Obi-Wan Kenobi series was originally announced at the D23 Expo in August of 2019. Deborah Chow is set to direct the show and will executive produce with Hossein Amini, who also wrote the series. McGregor, Kathleen Kennedy, and Tracey Seaward will also serve as executive producers on the project.
I honestly wasn't too interested in this series until seeing the rest of this ensemble. If they can keep up that momentum from The Mandalorian, Obi-Wan Kenobi could be the next big Star Wars series that everyone will be talking about. Between this, The Book of Boba Fett, Rangers of the New Republic, and the Ahsoka Tano Mandalorian spinoff series, Star Wars fans appear to be in for a treat.
