Not Bloody Likely rom-com casts Pierce Brosnan and Helena Bonham Carter

Either someone just turned my thermostat up a few degrees or two incredibly talented actors just teamed for a new romantic-comedy.

Word has reached the bullpen that Helena Bonham Carter and Pierce Brosnan have been cast to lead NOT BLOODY LIKELY,  a romantic comedy meant to explore the true story of the 1914 West End production of George Bernard Shaw’s Pygmalion.

According to Deadline, who exclusively broke the news on Monday, the movie revolves around Shaw (Brosnan), who has written his masterpiece Pygmalion and is determined for the great Mrs. Pat Campbell (Bonham Carter) to play the role of Eliza Doolittle. But is her casting just a chance for Shaw to rekindle his once-great love, the one that got away?

Joel Hopkins (Jump Tomorrow, The Love Punch, Hamstead) is already set to direct from his own script, with production being handled by Adam Rolston and David Braithwaite. Brosnan and Hopkins previously teamed for The Love Punch, which also starred Emma Thompson and Timothy Spall. In the 2013 comedy, a divorced couple scheme to recover the retirement money that was stolen from them.

“This is exactly the kind of film the world needs right now. A feel-good story that will make you laugh and make you cry for the right reasons. We can’t wait to get started,” said producers Rolston and Braithwaite.

“Joel’s wonderfully entertaining script breathes new life into the most beloved of Shaw’s plays and the casting of Helena Bonham Carter and Pierce Brosnan will make this a strong commercial proposition for buyers around the world,” added Alison Thompson and Mark Gooder of Cornerstone Films, who is in charge of the project's worldwide film rights.

Bonham Carter recently starred as Eudoria Holmes, the mysterious mother of Sherlock, Mycroft, and Enola Holmes, for Netflix's ENOLA HOLMES. She also brings down the house as Princess Margaret for season four of The Crown, which is set to premiere on Netflix on November 14, 2020. As for Brosnan, you can catch him as Eli McCullough for AMC's Western drama series The Son. He also stars as Erick Erickssong for the Will Ferrell Netflix comedy Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga, which is available to stream right now.
