Be warned, there will be spoilers for the last season of Bates Motel. Although I don't consider it to be the equal of Hannibal when it comes to film-to-TV adaptations, A&E's Bates Motel, which centers around a young Norman Bates (Freddie Highmore) and his mother Norma (Vera Farmiga), wound up being far better than I had anticipated. Although the series isn't without its problems, Bates Motel has greatly benefited from the presence of both Highmore and Farmiga, who successfully steal the show each and every episode. The upcoming fifth season will also be its last and A&E have dropped a chilling new teaser which sets the stage for the final ten-episodes.
Near the end of the fourth season of Bates Motel, Norman Bates finally committed the act which the entire series had been leading up to: the murder of Norma Bates. Even though Norma is no longer is among the living, Vera Farmiga will thankfully still be involved with the series as she'll be appearing to Norman as a ghostly presence. The fifth season will finally be entering PSYCHO territory and to that end, we'll be introduced to Marion Crane, played by Janet Leigh in Alfred Hitchcock's PSYCHO and by Rihanna in Bates Motel. As I haven't seen Rihanna act all that much, aside from BATTLESHIP, I can't say whether this casting will fit in with the Bates Motel universe or not. Here's hoping that the final season will go out with a bang.
The fifth and final season of Bates Motel will debut on February 20, 2017 at 10 p.m. ET.
