One of the most anticipated horror films of the year, Nope, from Jordan Peele, has just dropped its first trailer and looks to be every bit as intriguing as both Get Out and Us. Universal is saying this is Peele’s attempt to reimagine the summer movie, calling it a “pop nightmare” and an “expansive horror epic,” and indeed, it looks really cool. However, the trailer doesn’t reveal a heck of a lot. In it, we see Daniel Kaluuya and Keke Palmer as the owners of a horse ranch who come face-to-face with some incredible malevolent force (likely aliens – or at least that’s what they seem to be hinting at here).
Here’s the official synopsis from Universal:
“What’s a bad miracle?”
Oscar® winner Jordan Peele disrupted and redefined modern horror with Get Out and then Us. Now, he reimagines the summer movie with a new pop nightmare: the expansive horror epic, Nope.
The film reunites Peele with Oscar® winner Daniel Kaluuya (Get Out, Judas and the Black Messiah), who is joined by Keke Palmer (Hustlers, Alice) and Oscar® nominee Steven Yeun (Minari, Okja) as residents in a lonely gulch of inland California who bear witness to an uncanny and chilling discovery.
Nope, which co-stars Michael Wincott (Hitchcock, Westworld) and Brandon Perea (The OA, American Insurrection), is written and directed by Jordan Peele and is produced by Ian Cooper (Us, Candyman) and Jordan Peele for Monkeypaw Productions. The film will be released by Universal Pictures worldwide.
It sounds pretty cool to me, and I had no idea that Michael Wincott of The Crow (Top Dollar!) was in the cast. Peele always makes cool movies horror buffs spend a ton of time unpacking, so I’m curious to see what he has in store for us here.
