Nope: Jordan Peele unveiled a new trailer at CinemaCon, Michael Wincott has substantial role

Nope, a “horror epic” from Get Out and Us director Jordan Peele, is scheduled to reach theatres on July 22. A new trailer will be arriving online in a few weeks, but the folks attending CinemaCon in Las Vegas had the chance to see the trailer tonight – and Peele was at the convention to present it. Before the trailer was shown, Peele said he prefers to direct original content rather than franchise entries because he wants to “make his favorite movie he’s never seen before”. He also said he remains committed to the theatrical experience. He especially loves loud audiences who will yell things at the screen like “Nope!’… thus the title of his new movie. Plus, “riding rollercoasters, laughing and being scared isn’t fun alone.” Peele’s dedication to the theatrical experience is also evident in the fact that Nope was shot in 65mm IMAX.

When asked what the movie was about, Peele simply answered, “Nope!” He wants to keep this one shrouded in mystery, and said that the trailers give a taste of what it’s about, but he’s not going to give away the premise. For the story, all Universal is telling us is that the film centers on

residents in a lonely gulch of inland California who bear witness to an uncanny and chilling discovery.

Those residents are played by Daniel Kaluuya, Keke Palmer (Alice), and Steven Yeun (The Walking Dead). Also in the cast are Michael Wincott (The Crow), Brandon Perea (The OA), and Barbie Ferreira (Euphoria).

Here’s what our own Chris Bumbray had to say about the new trailer that was shown at CinemaCon:

Peele did ask for our discretion, so I can’t give away all I saw. Suffice to say, the “bad thing” comes from the clouds and builds up slowly. The thing that it might be is potentially revealed. The cast is emphasized and it looks like Michael Wincott has a major role. In fact, his face has even been added to the posters. Otherwise, I can say no more…
