If you saw Nope over the weekend, you were introduced to Brandon Perea. The up-and-coming actor plays Angel Torres in the film, a Fry’s tech salesman who helps the main characters capture what is going on in the sky over their California ranch. He’s a genuine scene-stealer in the film and gives a true standout performance that will make the industry take notice of him. Perea has only had a few roles across TV and movies, and Nope represents his big moment. Looking to capitalize on that moment, Perea is making it clear that he’s interested in joining the MCU, and he even has a character in mind.
During a recent interview with Remezcla, Perea expressed interest in joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Sam Alexander’s Nova. He then followed up with a tweet to get his growing fanbase to spread the word. In the interview, Perea said, “Marvel Cinematic Universe – I need to be there. I hope my performance in Nope proves that I can play a Marvel superhero. That’s what I want in my career – 100 percent.” You can check out Perea’s tweet below!
If that wasn’t enough, Perea showed that he’s physically capable of an MCU role with a post on Instagram. The caption reads, “Tell Marvel I’m coming!!” and it gives a good indication that Perea might not even need a stuntman to pull off some of the more intricate films he may face in a Marvel film. You can check out that post below!
Sam Alexander’s Nova was created in 2011 by writer Jeff Loeb and artist Ed McGuinness and is based on the original Nova, Richard Rider. Sam is a thirteen-year-old living in Arizona, and while searching for his missing father, he falls off his skateboard and is hit in the head. When he awakes, he discovers Gamora and Rocket standing over his hospital bed. They are also searching for his father and his Black Nova helmet. After discovering the helmet, Gamora and Rocket begin teaching Sam how to use it, and it’s ultimately how he takes on the Nova mantle.
Sounds like Perea has the youthful energy to play the role, although they’d have to make him a little older in a film version than the age of thirteen in the source material. The actor also expressed interest in playing Nightcrawler, so the guy certainly has options. In all seriousness, Perea takes full advantage of his time in Nope and carries his own against more veteran performers. Nothing wrong with striking while the iron is hot and putting it out in the universe what dream role you want to play. Manifest it, and it just might happen.
Do YOU think Brandon Perea would be a good addition to the MCU?
