Boys are trouble. Craig William Macneill tried to warn us with his 2015 horror film THE BOY, William Brent Bell attempted to drive it into our heads with his 2016 horror film THE BOY, and now filmmaker Jonas Arnby is going to try his hand at it, dropping the definite article for his sci-fi thriller BOY.
I really hope that title's going to get changed to something more interesting.
Noomi Rapace has signed on to star in the film, which has a Black List honored screenplay by Mattson Tomlin.
Arnby's BOY will center on
a teenage boy who is born with special abilities and spends his childhood switching names and cities to keep his identity hidden. When his conservative, suburban neighborhood discovers the risk he poses and blames him for a mass, tragic event, he and his mother must flee from the authorities who are looking to destroy him and seek the trust and support of an underground rebellion group.
The film is being produced by Brian Kavanaugh-Jones, Ben Pugh, and Leon Clarance, with Clarance's Motion Picture Capital handling the finances. Filming is expected to begin in August.
I enjoyed Arnby's Danish werewolf film WHEN ANIMALS DREAM, so I'm looking forward to seeing what he does with this story. But seriously, change the title.
