One of the most difficult tasks as an actor is playing multiple characters in a single film. It takes a rare talent to pull it off and have it not feel fake. Mike Myers, Peter Sellers, and Michael Keaton are amongst the select few who have made it work and Noomi Rapace may be soon added to that list.
Rapace will star in director Tommy Wirkola‘s film WHAT HAPPENED TO MONDAY? which has been a highly touted Black List screenplay for some time. Rapace will take on the roles in the science fiction film originally envisioned for a male lead.
Rapace will play the multiple roles of septuplet sisters who struggle to stay hidden in an overpopulated world were a one-child policy outlaws siblings.
Rapace gained fame in the original Swedish GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO before taking on big parts in SHERLOCK HOLMES: GAME OF SHADOWS and Ridley Scott‘s PROMETHEUS. Most recently she was seen in Brian De Palma‘s noir PASSION opposite Rachel McAdams. Tommy Wirkola is best known as the director of the surprising hit HANSEL AND GRETEL: WITCH HUNTERS. While a HANSEL AND GRETEL sequel is in development, Wirkola is working on DEAD SNOW: RED VS DEAD. WHAT HAPPENED TO MONDAY? will likely follow that horror sequel.
I like Rapace and think she has the potential to headline all sorts of action films. While Angelina Jolie and Milla Jovovich are often turned to for those types of roles, Rapace more than proved herself capable of headlining a big studio project with PROMETHEUS. I look forward to seeing where WHAT HAPPENED TO MONDAY? will go.
