Noomi Rapace joins the cast of Alien: Covenant after all

Once the sequel to PROMETHEUS got rolling, it was reported that both Noomi Rapace and Michael Fassbender would be back to reprise their roles. Although Fassbender has indeed returned for ALIEN: COVENANT, Ridley Scott himself later said that Noomi Rapace wouldn't be involved. Although it was a shame that we wouldn't get to see what happened to Dr. Elizabeth Shaw, we could only assume that Ridley had his reasons. Flash forward to the present and it appears that those reasons have changed as Deadline is reporting that Noomi Rapace will be back for ALIEN: COVENANT after all.

Production on ALIEN: COVENANT has been underway for several weeks in Australia and Deadline's sources say that Noomi Rapace will be on set for "weeks worth of scenes" in the film. Whether her inclusion in ALIEN: COVENANT is a last-minute addition or was something which was planned all along isn't certain at this time, but I suspect that some of those scenes will see Dr. Shaw reunited with Michael Fassbender's David, or at least his head.

A synopsis for ALIEN: COVENANT:

Ridley Scott returns to the universe he created in ALIEN with ALIEN: COVENANT, the second chapter in a prequel trilogy that began with PROMETHEUS — and connects directly to Scott’s 1979 seminal work of science fiction. Bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, the crew of the colony ship Covenant discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world — whose sole inhabitant is the “synthetic” David (Michael Fassbender), survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.

ALIEN: COVENANT will hit theaters on August 4, 2017.
