Noomi Rapace & Alexandre Aja team up for contained thriller O2

PROMETHEUS, WHAT HAPPENED TO MONDAY, and THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO star Noomi Rapace will (finally) be joining forces with HAUTE TENSION, CRAWL and THE HILLS HAVE EYES director Alexandre Aja for the upcoming contained thriller O2

Written by Christie LeBlanc, the 2016 Black List script is described as GRAVITY meets BURIED. More specifically, it centers on

a woman who wakes up in a cryogenic medical pod, alone, with no memory, and no way out. All she knows is that she has 90 minutes of oxygen left and must figure out how to save herself while discovering who she really is, who put her there, and most importantly – why?

Aja says:

[O2 is] one of the most compelling scripts I’ve read in years – a pure survival experience with a great mystery at its core. Even without the oxygen running out, the suspense on the page left me breathless.

Unfortunately, it looks like Aja is only attached as a producer. That said, Franck Khalfoun (P2, MANIAC, AMITYVILLE: THE AWAKENING, PREY) is set to direct the movie with Aja supervising artistic direction. Aja will produce along with Echo Lake Entertainment, 42 and Wild Bunch International.

CHARMING BACKSTORY: O2 screenwriter, LeBlanc was a single mother from Gatineau, Quebec when she penned this script and sent it (unsolicited) to Echo Lake. Riback and Engle then developed subsequent drafts with her finally landing on a draft that impressed Hollywood so much that the script landed on the 2016 Black List. Now O2 will kick off production this summer with IM Global financing the project with a budget of around $10 million.
