Spider-Man: No Way Home could web-up an award in addition to the millions of dollars it made at the box office. According to industry analysts, No Way Home is the clear winner of this year’s Fan-Favorite Award at the Oscars. The Academy on Monday posted a list of the top 10 films up for the award, and some of the nominees may surprise you.
As the numbers currently stand, Spider-Man: No Way Home is in the lead with 26% of the vote. Following No Way Home is Disney’s Encanto (14%), Dune (8%), Don’t Look Up (6%), and Ghostbusters: Afterlife (4%). Per the Morning Consult survey, eight movies tied with 3% – Sing 2, Jungle Cruise, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Venom: Let There Be Carnage, Black Widow, Cruella, Free Guy, West Side Story. Minamata starring Johnny Depp and Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead also made their way onto the list. Morning Consult conducted the survey Feb. 19-20, 2022, among a representative sample of 2,210 U.S. adults.
It comes as no surprise that Spider-Man: No Way Home would be in the lead for this year’s award. The final movie in Sony’s Homecoming trilogy was the highest-grossing film at the 2021 box office and is still a hot topic of conversation among fans of the character. When the Academy announced this year’s nominees for the annual ceremony, many voiced their frustration online at the lack of nominations for Spider-Man: No Way Home. While the Academy’s new category feels more like the organization throwing casual moviegoers a bone instead of giving a good film the recognition it deserves, it will still be fun to see the team behind No Way Home honored at the big show.
