Welcome back to another edition of James Bond Revisited, in which we finally unpack No Time to Die in our spoiler-heavy revisit. To note – the movie has been out for a few months now, so we’re going to delve pretty heavily into the film’s controversial ending and what it means for the franchise.
When it finally hit theatres on October 8th, 2021, No Time to Die proved a controversial addition to the franchise. Despite the pandemic, business was brisk, with it topping out at $160 million domestically and $774 million worldwide. It was only the seventh highest-grossing film of 2021 at the domestic box office, but worldwide it was number four, besting movies like Venom: Let There be Carnage (a much bigger hit domestically) & F9.
Critically, the reaction was largely positive, with it earning 83% on Rotten Tomatoes – pretty solid for a James Bond movie. I’ll preface this review by saying that, for me, this can’t help but hold a special place in my heart. I was invited to cover the junket for this movie, which involved interviewing Daniel Craig himself. I was even invited to a press event in London (just before the Omicron surge), so I may be biased. I own that. However, I tried to be fair in my assessment, and I hope everyone who’s been watching James Bond Revisited will enjoy what’s likely our final episode for a while.
