UPDATE: The latest Bond outing is officially the biggest film of the year during the pandemic worldwide. No Time to Die’s overseas total has brought its global total to over $733 million which tops the $721 million gross of Fast 9. No Time To Die is now the biggest Hollywood title in raw global figures since Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker in 2019 ($1.073 billion). In fact, No Time To Die’s global take actually tops The Rise of Skywalker with $579 million versus $559 million.
ORIGINAL STORY
James Bond has taken down Dom and his Fast crew, at least overseas. No Time To Die has officially become the highest-grossing Hollywood film of the pandemic era overseas. The latest Bond entry finished Sunday with $558.2 million in ticket sales which allowed it to pass the $549 million earned by Fast 9 overseas.
Oddly enough, this continues to be a win for Universal Pictures. The studio, which is the home of Fast 9, is also handling No Time To Die internationally on behalf of MGM and EON Productions, per “The Hollywood Reporter.” No Time To Die has also surpassed Skyfall’s lifetime gross in 18 markets and Spectre in another 22 markets. This is an impressive feat for a film released during the pandemic era. 007 concluded its overseas openings with a final launch in Australia where the film took in $8.2 million over the weekend, a pandemic-era best opening for the market. Stateside, No Time To Die has crossed the $150 million mark and the film brings its global total to $708.6 million.
Fast 9 is still the highest-grossing Hollywood film released during the pandemic era with a gross of $721 million but Bond could come close to claiming it if maintains steady grosses. What could prevent this is that No Time To Die was released on PVOD last week so moviegoers may decide to start viewing the film at home.
