No overlap between Scream film series and television series according to Harvey Weinstein

Earlier this week we shared the news that SCREAM series executive producer Harvey Weinstein has put it out there that he would like to see the franchise get going once again for a fifth and final installment, stating…

"Everyone lived in Scream 4. I'm begging him [brother Bob Weinstein, who runs the genre division Dimension Films] to do the movie and just end it. We've milked that cow." 

But that proverbial cow hasn't been milked dry just yet as the potential fifth film wouldn't be the end of SCREAM. We have previously reported that MTV is developing a television series based on the hit film series which begged the question: how much overlap will this new series have with the films?

We now have an answer to that question thanks to our pals over at BlairWitch.de, who reports that the series "is supposed to represent a new beginning and also pursue a supernatural direction", with Weinstein himself telling the press at the Zurich Film Festival that there will be no overlap between the film franchise and the television series.

I'm just fine with that but I do have to question how they will take SCREAM into a 'supernatural direction'. That just seems…odd. But hopefully it'll be worth checking out once it airs on the network once known for showing music videos but now known for terrifying us with horrifying original programming like "Jersey Shore" and "Catfish". Ok, I can't be too hard on MTV…they do have "Teen Wolf" which I've heard isn't too shabby.
