Earlier this month, it was announced that Ray Romano, who starred in the incredibly popular CBS sitcom Everybody Loves Raymond from 1996 to 2005, will be starring in an eight-episode dark comedy series called No Good Deed for the Netflix streaming service. Now Deadline reports that Romano is being joined in the cast by another sitcom legend: Lisa Kudrow, who played the character Phoebe Buffay on the incredibly popular NBC show Friends from 1994 to 2004.
Coming from Dead to Me creator Liz Feldman, No Good Deed will follow three very different families vying to buy the very same 1920s Spanish style villa that they think will solve all their problems. But as the sellers have already discovered, sometimes the home of your dreams can be a total nightmare.
Romano is taking on the role of Paul Morgan. “Constantly stressed and flat broke, Paul is a contractor desperate to retire, pay off his debts and escape LA. He thinks selling his beautiful Los Feliz home is the solution to all his and his wife Lydia’s problems, but his past mistakes will continue to haunt him.”
Kudrow will be playing Lydia Morgan. “A highly-talented (and highly-strung) former concert pianist, Lydia is a devoted wife to Paul (Romano) and loving-though-flawed mother to their two children. She is distraught by the idea of selling their Los Feliz home, a place filled with happy memories and dark secrets.”
Feldman serves as showrunner on No Good Deed and is executive producing the series alongside Will Ferrell and Jessica Elbaum for Gloria Sanchez Productions, Christie Smith, and Silver Tree, who will direct the pilot and additional episodes. Tree’s previous directing credits include episodes of Dead to Me, Fatal Attraction, The Flight Attendant, You, Shameless, Bones, Lethal Weapon, and many more.
No Good Deed sounds promising to me, and the chance to see Ray Romano and Lisa Kudrow share scenes in the same comedy series will probably draw in a good number of the viewers who have enjoyed watching them on their classic sitcoms.
