A remake of Joel Schumacher's 1990 sci-fi/horror FLATLINERS has been in the cards for a while, but it's only been in the last few months that the poject has begun assembling its cast. The original film, which starred Julia Roberts, Kiefer Sutherland, and Kevin Bacon revolved around "a group of medical students who journey into the afterworld to find meaning in their own lives before being resuscitated in the nick of time. As expected, the experiments soon go awry." Both Ellen Page (INCEPTION) and Diego Luna (ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY) are attached to star in the film, and now Deadline says that Nina Dobrev (The Vampire Diaries) may be joining them.
The outlet reports that Nina Dobrev is currently in talks to join the FLATLINERS remake, which is set to be directed by Niels Arden Oplev (THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO), as Marlo, an overachiever who is the top of her class. Dobrev has been filming a role in Vin Diesel's XXX: THE RETURN OF XANDER CAGE, which finds the extreme athlete turned government operative Xander Cage assembling a new team in order to recover a sinister and seemingly unstoppable weapon known as Pandora’s Box. Nina Dobrev plays a witty and sarcastic techie in the film, which is set for a January 20, 2017 release.
