The last we heard about Zebediah De Soto's 3D re-imagining of George Romero's NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD was that Meyers Media Group had picked up all international rights to the film — that was well over a year ago. After seemingly disappearing into thin air, De Soto's NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD: ORIGINS 3D appears to still be alive and kicking as it has just added Bollywood actor R. Madhavan to the cast. The film is shot entirely in a CG setting using stereoscopic 3D and is said to be a hybrid of graphic novel and traditional animation. I'm about as on the fence as you can get with this re-imagining but at least it's a different approach to the classic. Hell, it's at least worth giving a chance simply for the fact that it stars Tony Todd and Danielle Harris!
This re-imagining is the story of a group of survivors fighting to stay alive when a mysterious plague unleashes the undead on New York City. Barricaded in an abandoned apartment building, the characters from the original film face new terror and question each other’s compassion and sense of humanity as they fight to stay alive against the army of the living dead.
Co-written by De Soto, Warren Davis II and David Reuben Schwartz, the film also stars veterans Tony Todd and Tom Sizemore, along with scream queen Danielle Harris, Sarah Habel, Sydney Tamiia Poitier, Bill Mosley and Joseph Pilato. Producer Simon West adds, “This movie represents a whole new way of visualizing the classic zombie genre. It has a fresh and exciting style that sets it apart from all other horror films seen up until now.” — we'll see about that Mr. West!
