In a time of classic series revivals, we’re getting a first look at the new Night Court series, which will be airing on its original network NBC. The sequel series comes from Big Bang Theory actress Melissa Rauch, who will be serving as executive producer and star. She reveals that she is a long-time fan of the show and pitched it using the phrase “newboot” as she doesn’t view it as a complete reboot of the original series.

In the newly released first look, Rauch states, “When we were pitching it, I kept calling it a ‘newboot’ because it’s very much a continuation of the show that I love so much.” E! News reports that Rauch will be starring as Abby Stone, the daughter of Harry Stone, the judge of the original show portrayed by the late Harry Anderson. In the case of following in her father’s footsteps, Abby presides over the night shift of an NYC municipal state court. John Larroquette will be reprising his role as prosecutor Dan Fielding. Larroquette talks about how wonderful it is to be back and teases that the sitcom will show “what 35 years has done to this old, salty dog.”

Larroquette adds, “Being back on Night Court and seeing the new, fresh faces of these very talented comedians who I’m working with makes it worthwhile.” The comic actor had been a popular star in the original series, winning four Emmys for his role as Fielding. The original aired on NBC for nine seasons from 1984 to 1992.

The new cast was ecstatic to be working with the TV veteran. New cast member, India de Beaufort, expressed her enthusiasm working with Larroquette, “He was always up to some kind of mischief and throwing in things that we never saw coming.” Another fresh face, Kapil Talwalkar, says, “This is the best job ever. That’s right, you heard me correctly.” Cast member Larcetta, humorously adds, “It’s filled with crazy characters and then, you know, the people in the gallery.”

Night Court premieres Tuesday, January 17, at 8 p.m. on NBC.
